rePET Packaging at Kotányi

At Kotányi, we are now using up to 100% rePET packaging for all of our tins over 400 cm3. This allows us to save approximately 155 tonnes of “virgin plastic” per year.

Kotányi prepares and packages spices and herbs products for the entire world right here in Austria. Our products aren’t just used in household kitchens — they are also used in professional environments such as restaurants and hotels from Brazil to Russia. It goes without saying that our herbs and spices require specific packaging to guarantee highest product quality , so making this packaging more environmentally friendly is a big priority for us. By using the new rePET packaging for our tins with a volume over 400 cm3, we are taking an important step toward this.

rePET Saves Plastic

PET packaging is made of plastic, which is manufactured using fossil resources such as oil, coal and gas. These resources are limited. PET can be recycled and reused as rePET, which considerably reduces the impact on the environment. rePET is also more sustainable that other materials such as tin cans and aluminum/card composite containers, which use considerably more water during production and have a greater impact on the environment due to soil acidification.

Sustainability at Kotányi

We already adapted our production processes and converted all herb tins starting with a volume of 400 cm3 from PET to rePET. That equates to a saving of approximately 155 tonnes of virgin plastic — per year! rePET doesn’t just cut down on plastic use once — Kotányi rePET tins can also be recycled again. This means that the material used in our tins could be reused to make clothing or a backpack.

This is just one way in which we are continuing our efforts to contribute to a better future. Find out more in our Sustainability Report.
