At Kotányi, we are now using 100% rePET packaging for cans from 400cc upwards. This saves us around 155 tonnes of plastic per year.

In Austria, Kotányi processes and packs products for the whole world. Our products are not only found in the kitchens of private individuals, but also in catering establishments such as restaurants and hotels from Brazil to Russia. Naturally, the processing of our herbs and spices requires large quantities of packaging. Making this packaging more environmentally friendly is very important to us. With the new rePET packaging for our tins from 400cc upwards, we are taking an important step in this direction.

rePET saves plastic

PET packaging is made of plastic, the production of which requires fossil raw materials such as crude oil, coal and gas, which are only available to us in limited quantities. PET can be recycled and reused as rePET, which significantly reduces the impact on the environment. rePET is therefore more sustainable than other materials such as tinplate cans or aluminium/cardboard composite cans, as these require significantly more water for production and have a higher environmental impact due to soil acidification.

Sustainability at Kotányi

We have adapted our production processes and converted all spice jars with a volume of 400cc or more from PET to rePET. This corresponds to a saving of around 155 tonnes of plastic – every year! What’s more, rePET not only saves plastic once, Kotányi’s rePET cans can also be recycled themselves. This means that the material from our cans may one day be used to make clothing or a rucksack.

In this way, we are continuing our efforts to make a contribution to a future worth living.
